Dr. Zenga earned her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology with a focus on Integrative Psychotherapy in 2018 from the California School of Professional Psychology and the Center for Integrative Psychology in San Diego. Her training included a diverse range of internships, where she worked with adults in various inpatient and specialty outpatient settings, addressing substance use, co-occurring disorders, chronic pain, grief and loss, and providing psychological assessment. During this period, she co-developed a long-term crisis stabilization case management program for dependent adults and geriatric clients and assisted to pilot and evaluate a chemical dependency program within an inpatient mental health facility.
Following her internships, Dr. Zenga completed postdoctoral training, where she focused on treating patients with severe mental illness and specialty case management.
With twelve years of experience in education, healthcare leadership, treatment, and management, Dr. Zenga is deeply involved in mentoring individuals within the therapy field. She is licensed to practice psychology in California and continues to contribute to the mental health field through her clinical work and leadership.
Dr. Zenga brings over a decade of professional experience in mental health, having worked across various settings including hospitals, outpatient clinics, and private practice. Her extensive experience includes specializing in trauma and mindfulness, with a focus on treating conditions such as behavioral issues, stress management, depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, grief and loss, LGBTQ+, and trauma-related conditions for both teens and adults.
Notably, Dr. Zenga has co-developed and managed a specialty trauma outpatient facility, providing care for adolescents, their families, and adults, showcasing her commitment to innovative and effective care, which has garnered a nationally recognized award. Her approach to treatment is integrative and individualized, emphasizing collaboration with patients to provide tailored treatment. By incorporating evidence-based practices like EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Mindfulness, and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Dr. Zenga aims to empower individuals and their families, fostering wellness and recovery through a humanistic and solution-focused approach.
Dr. Zenga is an active member of the American Psychological Association (APA).
Dr. Zenga's journey reflects a deep commitment to both mental health and community service. Since relocating to San Diego in 2006, her background as a former military dependent has provided her with diverse experiences across the U.S., leading her to settle in a place that aligns with her values and interests. Her passion for mental health was sparked early on through volunteer work in senior communities and has since expanded to include significant contributions to agencies supporting the homeless and displaced families.
With experience in community-based, non-profit, private mental health organizations, and healthcare institutions, Dr. Zenga is dedicated to enhancing mental health and well-being by connecting individuals with valuable resources. Her role as a mother further fuels her passion for healthy parenting and mental health awareness.
In her personal time, Dr. Zenga stays active through hiking, kayaking, golfing, and beach outings, and health practices such as yoga, meditation, and strength training. She has a strong affinity for exploring the outdoors, history and food; and she enjoys traveling, road trips, and camping. Her well-rounded interests and experiences reflect a vibrant and balanced approach to life.
