Dr. De Villiers earned her Ph.D. in 2001 from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego and is licensed in California and New York. She did her pre and post doctoral internships at Scripps Clinic and has over 20 years of experience working in medical clinics, working with the military and developing her private practice. She is Level 3 trained in Gottman Method Couples therapy and also trained in EMDR trauma therapy.
Dr. De Villiers has more than 20 years of experience in working with couples, adults and with military service members and their families. Her experience includes treating a wide range of conditions including: stress management, depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, stepfamilies, and military transition to civilian life. Additionally, she works with military special forces. Dr. De Villiers specializes in using an evidence based approach to helping hard working couples and individuals improve their lives in an empathic, collaborative and safe environment. She holds certifications in couples therapy, trauma treatments, blended families, and leadership coaching. She is also a person of faith…this drives how she treats others and provides her with purpose and meaning both professionally and personally.
Dr. De Villiers was born at Camp Pendleton and grew up with father who served a long career in the USMC and lived the military life moving often throughout her childhood. This has fueled her love of travel and she has visited many fascinating places throughout the world including South Africa. She is a mom and stepmom to 7 children and enjoys her grandchildren. She owns a place in Tennessee and commutes back and forth between there and San Diego.
